An exceptional example from Yves Saint Laurent’s celebrated Spring/Summer 1967 “Bambara” haute couture collection. The collection drew particular inspiration from Bambara/Bamana sculpture of Mali. 

Feature a black textured textile with intricate openwork, raffia-like fringe, and rows of black beads, the dress is constructed in distinct horizontal sections that alternate between dense woven surfaces and revealing, latticed panels. A dramatic open midriff is framed by cascading strands of beadwork and finished with a richly ornamented beaded band at the waist. The fitted sleeveless bodice leads into a compact mini skirt.
